Shubman Gill Picks His Favourite Non-Indian Cricketer

Born on September 8, 1999, Shubman Gill summarises the new breed of Indian cricketers. Consistent, sharp and alert, Gill is a fan of Virat Kohli and credits the Indian captain for breaking the trends in the team. Now, when asked about his favourite non-Indian cricketer, the Punjab batsman said he admires South Africa’s great AB de Villiers when it comes to overseas cricketers.
Shubman Gill shot to fame with 418 runs at an average of 104.50 in the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup, where he served as Prithvi Shaw’s deputy and batted at No. 3 to play a crucial role in India’s record fourth world title. Later, he was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 1.8 crore.

His stint with KKR has fetched him accolades from the greats of the game for his consistency and fearlessness in facing the best bowlers of the tournament. Meanwhile, in an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Gill was asked to choose the best non-Indian cricketer with whom he has played with or against, he picked AB de Villiers. When asked to pick his favourite sportsperson away from cricket, Shubman Gill quoted ”Yeah, many. I like Neymar Jr a lot.”

Following his fine performances in IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India gave him an international call-up to replace Virat Kohli in India’s tour to New Zealand. Later, his 90, 204, 62, 77, 69 and 40 in the lead up to series against South Africa has fetched him a maiden call-up for the Test format of the game as well.
With his unbeaten 204 for India A, Gill had become the youngest Indian to score a first-class double century for an Indian representative side. Besides that, there are quite a few records he registered playing for Punjab in his domestic stint. Recently, he was also made the skipper for a domestic tournament.
