India youngster Shubman Gill has been making the news for all the right reasons in recent times. The youngster has not looked back since starring for India in their triumphant campaign at the ICC U-19 World Cup last year. He further enhanced his reputation with some impressive displays in the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket.
Earlier this year, he even made his ODI debut during the tour of New Zealand although he failed to make much of a mark in the two matches he played. However, he was back among runs during the IPL and recently impressed for India A.
The highly-rated youngster is not only tipped to be a future star but is also in good form. In the five-match series against West Indies A, he scored three fifties. Overall. he scored 218 runs to help India A win the series by 4-1. In the succeeding unofficial Test, he also scored a double century. It is now just a matter of time before Shubman Gill starts getting regular chances in the senior team.
One man who has played a big role in shaping Shubman Gill’s career is former India skipper Rahul Dravid. The legendary batsman has been coaching Gill since his U-19 days. Gill has now opened up on the advise received from Dravid. The right-hander has said Dravid has advised him to always back his basic game.
“Rahul sir has been my coach since the India U-19 days and then India A. There is one basic advice from him which I always keep in mind. He would tell me that come what may, never change your basic game that got you success,” said Gill as quoted by Hindustan Times.
“He (Dravid) said that if we want to get technically more solid, all the adjustments that we make should be within the confines of our basic game,” he added.
