On Sunday (February 9) in the ongoing second unofficial Test between New Zealand A and India A in Lincoln, young gun Shubman Gill has slammed an unbeaten hundred—to make hosts bowlers toil hard on the third day of the four-day Test.
The technically sound opening batsman Gill has scored 107 off 153 deliveries. Gill, during his innings, has struck 13 fours and a six to help India A to post 234 for one in 53 overs.
The 20-year-old Gill has already slammed an unbeaten double-century in the first unofficial Test in Christchurch apart from 83.
So, overall, the exquisite timer of the ball, Gill is keen to leave a mark for the senior team which is slated to play two-match Test series on Kiwis shores.
Earlier, while opening innings alongside Hanuma Vihari, Gill had played some remarkable strokes to keep the scoreboard ticking.
The duo stitched a 123-run partnership which came off 196 deliveries. Vihari scored 73-ball 59 before Blair Tickner accounted for his wicket. Skipper Vihari struck nine fours during his stay at the crease.
At the stumps on day three of the 2nd unofficial Test at Bert Sutcliffe, India A are trailing by 152 runs following New Zealand A’s first innings total of 386 for nine (before the declaration came).
Hamish Rutherford-led New Zealand A had declared their innings following an unbeaten 103 from Daryl Mitchell. The decision came after the second day was washed out due to inclement weather.
For India, Sandeep Warrier, Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan and star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked two wickets each.
Besides, Vijay Shankar had bowled just two overs, whereas, Shahbaz Nadeem managed to pick a wicket after conceding 59 runs in 27 overs.
Interestingly, coming to India’s innings, Gill is batting alongside Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara. Notably, it would further allow batters to make most out of the conditions on the final day’s play.
Furthermore, the elegant right-handed batsman Pujara is batting on 52 off 99 deliveries.
Meanwhile, India A will resume their innings with an overnight score of 234 for one on Monday.
