Former Australian batsman Simon Katich is confident enough to see wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik ‘in the mix’ of India’s 2019 World Cup campaign in England and Wales. Also, he believes the experienced campaigned has enough in his tank to deliver according to the situation in away conditions.

The 43-year-old Katich is in India as he is serving as the batting consultant for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Karthik has led the franchise in the best possible way.

Furthermore, under Karthik’s leadership Knight Riders finished third on the points table with eight wins in 14 games in IPL 2018. The spirited batsman in Karthik has given his best with the bat to keep his team afloat at the length, in the eleventh edition of the IPL.

Concurrently, Katich is overseeing Knight Riders’ camp at the Jadavpur University’s Salt Lake Campus Ground of Kolkata. The practice session has been eventful as Katich has imparted knowledge to the youngsters before the kick-off of the IPL on March 23.

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the curtain-raiser in Chennai.

While speaking about Karthik’s experience in the crunch situations of the game, Katich feels Karthik is the force to reckon with. The prominent Australian cricketer cited Karthik is capable of leaving an impact to book his spot with his batting skills.

“As for Dinesh, we all know what he is capable of. He is a very experienced player. He is someone who is very hard to bowl to at times. So, no doubt, he will be in the mix for the World Cup,” Katich told Telegraph India.

Last year, Karthik’s brilliant show won thrilling Nidahas Trophy finale for India against Bangladesh. He slammed unbeaten eight-ball 29 with the help of three sixes and two fours on March 18, 2018, in Colombo.

Recently, the 33-year-old Karthik has featured in two-match Twenty20 Internationals and he couldn’t go past the double-figure mark. Besides, he missed out on five-match ODI series against Australia.

However, Karthik has the best chance in the impending IPL season to impress selectors as the last date for the 2019 World Cup squad announcement has been set as April 23 by ICC.

The ODI showpiece will run between May 30 and July 30 in the United Kingdom (UK).

Talking about Knight Riders’ development young speedster Kamlesh Nagarkoti is yet to recover from his long-standing back issue. Alongside, Nagarkot Shivam Mavi has also been ruled out of IPL 2019 following a back injury.
