Sri Lanka stunned India by five wickets in the Nidahas Trophy-opener on Tuesday (March 6).

Sent in to bat first, India rode on Shikhar Dhawan’s majestic 90-run knock to post a competitive 174 for five in the allotted 20 overs.

However, the score turned out to be quite low in the end, as the hosts reached home with nine balls in hand.

Kusal Perera was the star of the show for the Islanders, smacking 66 to lead the reply. The knock came off just 37 balls and was studded with six fours and four sixes.

It was one-way traffic when Perera was batting, as Sri Lanka never looked in trouble during the chase.

With the game all done and dusted now, we are taking a look at some interesting stats and numbers from the game.

1. The win was Sri Lanka’s first at home against India in the T20I format. They lost each of the three T20Is they played at home against the Men in Blue. This was also the first win in eight T20Is for Sri Lanka against India. They had lost seven consecutive games against India.

2. Rohit Sharma became only the second India skipper to get out for a duck in the T20Is.  Virat Kohli became the first to do so when he failed to open his account during the Guwahati T20I against Australia last year.

3. Rohit also became the second player after Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan to score a century and bag a duck as captain in the shortest format of the game.

4. The defeat ended Rohit’s winning streak as skipper. The Mumbai star had led India to wins in his first four games as captain.

5. Rohit has now five ducks in T20Is. There are the most number of ducks for an Indian player in this format with no other player bagging more than three ducks.

6. Shardul Thakur now holds the dubious record of conceding second most runs in an over by an Indian. The right-arm pacer conceded 27 runs in his very first over of the game. Stuart Binny has bowled the most expensive over in T20I by an Indian. He had conceded 32 runs in an over against West Indies in 2016.

7. Sri Lanka scored their highest-ever powerplay score during the game. The Islanders amassed 75 runs after the first six overs.  Their previous highest powerplay score in this format was 73 which also came against India in 2009.

8. Shikhar Dhawan, who was out for 90, became the first Indian to be dismissed in the 90s in T20Is. Virat Kohli is the only other Indian to score the nineties in a T20I. He scored an unbeaten 90 against Australia in 2016.

9. Dhawan also became the first Indian and only the 5th player to be dismissed in the 90s in all the three formats in International cricket. Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Steven Smith and Alex Hales are the others to be dismissed in the 90s in all three formats.
