SL vs SA 2nd Test, Day 4: Twitter Reacts As Sri Lanka Clinches The Series 2-0
Updated - 23 Jul 2018, 04:03 PM
Sri Lanka was able to clinch the two-match Test series against South Africa by winning the second Test by a gargantuan margin of 200 runs. Consequently, the hosts were dominant right throughout the series as they clean sweep the visitors.
Sri Lanka was in the shoo-in position after the end of Day 3 of the second Test match. However, Theunis de Bruyn and Temba Bavuma were able to show some resistance. The pair put together an alliance of 123 runs for the sixth to keep inevitable Sri Lanka win at bay.
Sri Lanka was dominant right throughout the series.
de Bruyn showed the determination to fight till the end as he scored a fine 101 runs from 232 balls.
However, it was always going to be an easy win for the home side given their huge lead. The Sri Lankan spinners continued their domination as they once again troubled the Proteas batsmen. In fact, all the twenty tourist’s scalps were taken by the Sri Lankan spinners.
Veteran spinner Rangana Herath scalped six wickets in the second innings to hand over a comfortable win to his side. Akila Dananjaya and Dilruwan Perera contributed with two wickets each.
Consequently, South Africa would have been disappointed by their dismal performance in the series. The tourists were definitely let down by their poor show with the bat. In fact, everyone thought they were the favorites before the series. In fact, they had a better side on paper. However, the home side was able to prove its mettle with the help of the spinners.
Sri Lankan spinners ruled over the Proteas batters.
However, Keshav Maharaj was a positive for the Proteas side. Hence, the tweaker had taken nine wickets in the first innings to go with three more scalps in the second dig.
Now the first One-Dayer of the five-match series between the two sides will be played at Dambulla on July 29.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Sri Lanka’s series win:

100 for Theunis de Bruyn! Maiden Test century! His greatest moment in his short international career. May he be given proper opportunity to build on this. Well done to KG for the support! #SLvSA
