Smriti Mandhana Becomes Fastest Indian To Complete 3000 Runs In Women’s ODIs

India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana became the fastest Indian to reach the 3000-run milestone in Women’s ODI cricket during the second one-day international between India women and England women which is being played at the St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.
Mandhana is also the third woman batter to reach the 3000-run milestone from the Indian team. Mandhana started the series with a thrilling 91 off 99 balls in Hove, helping India to a seven-wicket win on Sunday.
Meanwhile England captain Amy Jones had won the toss and chose to bowl first. Freya Kemp got her ODI debut cap, while India made two changes as well. Out went Sneh Rana and Meghana Singh and they were replaced by Dayalan Hemalatha and Renuka Singh.
India has a bad start as Shafali Verma’s poor run with the bat continued as she managed only 8 runs. But Smriti Mandhana showed great touch for her 40 runs in 51 balls, before getting out to Sophie Ecclestone. She was followed by Yastika Bhatia who made 26 runs.
During her knock, Mandhana reached the feat in her 76th ODI innings, surpassing India legend Mithali Raj who crossed the mark in 88 innings. She completed 3,000 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 43+ and almost a strike rate of 85.
Smriti Mandhana Quickest Indian Woman And Third Fastest To 3000 ODI Runs
Apart from this, Mandhana became the quickest Indian women’s player and the third fastest Indian after Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli to the landmark. While Dhawan reached 3000 ODI runs in 72 innings, Kohli did so in 75 innings.
Mandhana took one more inning than Kohli, achieving the milestone in her 76th innings.
The 26-year-old has five centuries and 24 half-centuries in the format and is the third Indian women’s player after Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur to the 3000-run mark in the format. Only Belinda Clark (62 innings) and Meg Lanning (64 innings) reached the milestone faster than Mandhana.
Meanwhile, India finished on 333/5 in 50 overs thanks to a whirlwind 143* from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and 58 from Harleen Deol.
