Murali Vijay, the veteran Indian National Cricket team Test opener, who had an awful time in Australia only to be dropped in favour of Mayank Agarwal, is hopeful for a comeback in the national set-up. Meanwhile, this was the second time in a year; the management snubbed Vijay for his poor form with the bat. Previously, the management dropped him during the Test series against England.

But, Vijay made a strong comeback playing some good knocks in County Cricket, and for India A. As a result, the selectors included him for the Test series against Australia. But his form soon took a downslide and only played the first two Test against the Aussies. India had to field a young opening pair in Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne.

Speaking to Sportstar about his snubbing, Murali Vijay admitted that he is hurt more. He also noted that he was one inning away from a big score and expected to play the Melbourne Test after batting well in the second innings of the Perth Test. Vijay also added that he deserved that one chance and was hoping to get one.

I feel hurt that I am not a part a part of the Indian team. I am not disappointed. But really hurt,” Vijay said.

I expected to play the Test. In fact, I was sure I would play the Test. I had batted well in the second innings of the second Test at Perth. I felt I was only one innings away from form. I deserved that one chance in the Boxing Day Test. I was full of hope and optimism ahead of the Test,” he added.

Vijay hopeful of playing for India again

With young openers like Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal making an immediate mark with their opportunity, it is highly unlikely that Murali Vijay will find a place in the Test side once again. But the Tamil Nadu cricketer is optimistic that he will play for India once again.

I will have my moments again for India,” he signed off.
