The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the best domestic cricket leagues in the world. Such is its fame that top players from all over the world come to play in India. Players from various nations feature in the IPL except for Pakistan due to strained relations between the two neighbouring countries.
However, in the first edition of IPL, Sohail Tanvir played for Rajasthan Royals and was the last Pakistani cricketer to play in India.
In a recent interview with GTV news channel, Sohail admits having regrets about not getting the chance to play in IPL since. In his opinion, it is ‘the best T20 league in the world.’

Sohail Tanvir regrets not playing in IPL after its first edition:
The left-arm Pakistani pacer was a standout player for the Royals in IPL’s first edition. He helped the franchise win their first and only IPL trophy ever.
Since then, Sohail has never featured in the IPL, something he regrets even now.
“Yes as a professional cricketer, there is regret that myself and other Pakistani players can’t appear in the IPL. It is realistically the top T20 league in the world and which player would not like to play in it,” said the 35-year-old.

Tanvir last played for Pakistan in 2017, in a T20 against the West Indies. Despite that, he has been a regular feature in domestic T20 leagues around the world.
Although, he still hopes to gain a spot in the national squad, especially after Pakistan coach Misbah-ul-Haq backed experienced players in their recent T20 series versus Bangladesh.
Sohail further added, “The fact that the selectors have recalled Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik for the series against Bangladesh has given me a lot of hope. It means seniors are still in contention.”
