Somerset County Club has signed the number T20I batsman Babar Azam for the upcoming T20 Vitality blast. However, the joining will be subject to the club getting the appropriate visa or NOC green chit. Meanwhile, the talented batsman made his T20 debut against England in 2016 and since then he has taken giant steps at the International level.

The flamboyant batsman has thus far amassed 1180 runs in the 29 T20I matches at a staggering average of 53.72. Babar Azam highest score in the shortest format is 97 runs and he has scored his strike rate of 127.78.

Meanwhile, the stylish batsman will be available for 14 league matches for the Somerset County Club. Furthermore, he is going to be available for the quarterfinal contest. In fact, his availability for the final stages of the tournament will depend on his commitments for the national duties.

Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry said as quoted by the club website,  “To be able to sign a player of the calibre of Babar Azam is tremendously exciting. He is a proven performer at the very highest level and that is highlighted by the fact that he is the top rated international T20 batsman in the world.

“Obviously, everyone wants to sign a world-class performer, but we feel that continuity of selection is equally important. For us, it is about securing the services of someone as talented as Babar Azam for more than just a handful of fixtures.”

Babar Azam said that he is looking forward to joining the T20 Blast with all the zest.

Babar Azam said, “I am looking forward to the new challenge that playing T20 cricket in England will bring. I have heard good things about Somerset from Azhar Ali and I want to play a part in the Club winning matches. I know that Somerset get good support and I hope that I can give them something to cheer about this year.”

Meanwhile, Babar Azam is currently in England. Pakistan will play one-off T20I and five One Day Internationals against the host’s side. The one-off T20I will take place on 5th May whereas the opening ODI will be played on 8th May.
