Somerset has roped in the services of Windies fast bowler Jerome Taylor. The deal was done on late Friday (July 20).

Pertinently, paceman Taylor will be available for the remainder of the nine games of the NatWest T20 Blast. The 34-year-old speedster will be playing his first game of the tournament on 27th July against Surrey. He will also be part of the knockout leg of the tournament if his franchise does progress through to the next stage.

The director of Somerset Cricket, Andy Hurry was pleased to sign the deal with Taylor. He felt that Taylor is a high-quality bowler which will help the team during the course of the tournament.

“We are delighted to have secured such a high-quality player for the business end of the Vitality Blast,” Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry was quoted as saying by the Cricbuzz.

Taylor has earlier played in England and will hope to use his experience to great effect.

“He brings with him a wealth of international T20 experience and is a player who can really impact games with the ball, both with the new ball and especially at the end of an innings,” Hurry added.

Taylor was part of the World T20 winning Windies squad:

Taylor was part of the Windies squad which won the World Twenty20 Trophy in 2016 against England. He has an abundance of experience behind him. He has earlier played for Sussex and Leicestershire in the English County League and has performed quite well.

The fast bowler in the form of Taylor has an experience of playing 89 T20 matches and has bagged 104 wickets at an economy rate of 8.12. His inclusion in the Somerset squad will definitely bolster their bowling line-up.

Jerome Taylor also expressed his eagerness to join the county. He will be honoured to play for such a prestigious squad.

“I’m really excited to be joining Somerset. It’s a real honour to join such a prestigious club and I hope that I can help bring my experience to what looks like a really exciting group of young players,” delighted Taylor revealed.

Meanwhile, Somerset is currently placed sixth in the South Division of the T20 Blast. They have won two and has suffered a couple of defeats in four games so far.
