Discarded India all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh has showered heaps of praise on former India skipper Sourav Ganguly for backing the southpaw early in his international career.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj along with Ganguly and Virender Sehwag were present at a book launch in the capital city. Moreover, Ganguly recently authored an autobiography titled, ‘A Century Is Not Enough’.
The 304 ODI’s veteran, Yuvraj last played for the men in blue in June last year against the Windies. Since then, he is training hard to force his way back into the national team.
However, he is currently with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) side in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). After a string of poor performances, the all-rounder lost his place in the team in the last game.
Yuvraj will be desperate to prove his worth as a player and contribute to team’s success.
Meanwhile, Punjab has had a good start to this tournament and is in line to book a place in the playoffs. However, there is a lot to play for, and they will have to continue giving their best shot.
Ganguly backed me a lot
During the candid chat, Yuvraj relived his past experiences when he bursts on to the international scene.
Moreover, Ganguly was the skipper of the side when Yuvraj made his debut. Yuvraj also recalled when Ganguly credited him as one of the best fielders.
“When I arrived into the scene, Dada said ‘after a long time, we have a good fielder in Indian team,” Yuvraj said.
He also relived the moment when Ganguly backed his ability as a match-winner after a couple of failures.
Moreover, Ganguly always backed the junior cricketers and gave them the confidence needed to shine at this stage.
“After a couple of good knocks, I failed in the following innings and struggled against spin. But he (Ganguly) backed me because he knew that I was a match-winner,” added Yuvraj.
Meanwhile, the all-rounder is now eyeing a World Cup spot next year in England and Wales. However, he needs to up his game to present a strong case for himself in front of the selectors.
