The former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, has been speaking in favour of pink ball home day-night Test for a long time now. In fact, when the BCCI scrapped the Duleep Trophy from this year’s domestic calendar, it was Ganguly who reinstated the tournament. He has been the one who has been favouring a day-night home Test, and reports have suggested that he also took up the matter in BCCI’s SGM,
“Ganguly wants to ensure that Test matches at home get more fans and that is why he is advocating day-night Test,” a BCCI SGM member told TOI.

During team India’s last home season, where the team played a total of 13 home Tests, the side was expected to play a pink ball game, but when the fixtures were out, there was a big surprise as there was no day/night game slated in the season.
Though, BCCI adopted the pink ball idea for the Duleep Trophy tournament for the first time. Few players had batted in favour of the pink ball while some were against it. As a result, no conclusion was made.
The idea now seems to have taken a back seat, but Sourav Ganguly is still pitching in for a day-night Test. One of the concerns that he has raised is the low turnout during Test matches in India. Barring Delhi, there was hardly any public in Kolkata and Nagpur Test against Sri Lanka.

Empty stands marked the start of first two Tests and ended on the same note. In Delhi, though, more than half of the seats were occupied, especially on weekend days.
If the idea of the pink ball is approved anytime soon, then it might be CAB who would host the game as it was the same association that hosted a league game with the pink ball last year in June. The local game was televised but was marked with the presence of Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha – both of whom played the game. The match was also televised.
Ganguly has already presented a strong case for hosting the game. However, the final decision will be taken by Indian team management in consultation with the players as skipper, Virat Kohli himself is yet to play any recognised game with the pink ball.
