The upcoming first T20I between India and Bangladesh in Delhi is in the news for all the wrong reasons. The pollution level in the national capital has been a big matter of concern. The exposure to the polluted air is definitely going to take an adverse affect on the players. When Sri Lanka had played a Test in Delhi in December 2017, their players had complained about having difficulty while breathing.
In fact, the visitors had to wear masks to play in Delhi. The present scenario is even worse. The overall air quality index (AQI) crossed the 400 mark on Wednesday, raising concerns among residents of the city. An AQI between 0-50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor”, and 401-500 “severe”. Above 500 is “severe-plus emergency” category.
Recent media reports suggest that Team India are unlikely to train outdoors while being in the city. The players are more than likely to stick to gym session before the series-opener. Thus there were speculations that the venue might be changed for the game. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the game would go ahead as scheduled.
“Yes, it will,” Sourav Ganguly told ANI when asked whether the Delhi game would go ahead.

Meanwhile, former India opener and current BJP lawmaker Gautam Gambhir, on Wednesday, said that pollution is a bigger concern than a cricket match.
“It is a far serious issue than having a game of cricket or any other sports matches happens in. For us I think people living in Delhi should be more concerned about the pollution levels rather than the cricket match that happens,” he said.
The first T20I of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on November 3. This is just the second time Bangladesh are touring India for a bilateral series. They will play three T20Is and two Tests.
