BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Reacts To CSK Members Testing Positive For Covid-19

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has reacted for the first time after CSK members tested positive for Covid-19. The cricket board confirmed via a press release that 13 members from the CSK squad have tested positive. It has also been reported that India fast bowler Deepak Chahar and young Ruturaj Gaekwad are among them.

The news comes as a major jolt for the cricket board and the team. IPL 2020 is slated to get underway from September 19. Although the schedule for the tournament is still to be announced. Ganguly said that he cannot comment on the situation of CSK. However, they are monitoring it the tournament can start as per schedule.

“I cannot comment on the situation of CSK. We will see if they can start as per schedule. I hope the IPL will be conducted well. We have a long schedule for the tournament and I sincerely hope everything will go on just fine,” Sourav Ganguly told the Times of India.

CSK were supposed to begin their training on Friday but now have been forced to return to quarantine. Earlier, reports claimed that other IPL franchise have now urged BCCI to take strict warning to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to maintain the SOP guidelines.

The three-time IPL champions had underwent a preparatory camp in Chennai before departing for UAE. Though it is not clear from where the members contracted the virus, various speculations have been made on social media.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that when it was announced that the tournament will be conducted in UAE, he asked Dhoni about conducting the camp in Chennai, and the captain straightaway said that it is a must for the players to understand the situation. Viswanathan also added that Dhoni was crystal clear with his thoughts.
