For every successful cricketer, there are some defining moments in their career, which would stand tall even after their retirement. Much to the same, VVS Laxman will always be remembered for his incredible 281-run knock against Australia at historic Eden Gardens. Highlighting the same, VVS Laxman named his book ”281 and Beyond”. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly isn’t impressed with the title.
VVS Laxman always played a pivotal role under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. He was the chief run-scorer for Indian Team, which helped Sourav Ganguly to have successful records under his kitty.
It should be ‘281 and beyond and that saved Sourav Ganguly’s career’ – Ganguly
The Prince of Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly revealed the majestic knock of VVS Laxman had saved his captaincy hat. Ganguly added he would have been dropped from the respective role if Indian side had lost the game against Australia.

It was an epic knock from VVS Laxman in a partnership with Rahul Dravid at the other end. Speaking of the same, Ganguly felt that the title of the book should have been 281 and Beyond and That Saved Sourav Ganguly Career.
“I told him it was not the apt title… It should have been ‘281 and beyond and that saved Sourav Ganguly’s career’. I strongly opposed the title because if he had not scored 281, we would have lost the Test and I would not have been captain again,” he said.

”Laxman was a player who could have done well in all formats. In hindsight, maybe it was a mistake. As a captain, you make decisions and things happen which may not be right or wrong,” Ganguly added.
Well, it was a great victory for the Indian team against Australians, which will always remain in the golden category of Indian cricket history. It was the knock that not only saved Sourav Ganguly career but also saved India’s Pride.
