Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly is currently on his way to England as he plans to propose a four-nation series every year, involving India, England, Australia and one more top nation.

While Ganguly is scheduled to have an informal meeting with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), there is no word as of yet if Cricket Australia (CA) will be a part of the same or not.

Just days after taking over as BCCI supremo, Ganguly announced that the prime cricketing body of India was in talks to host a four-nation series every year.

England, Australia and one another nation will be invited to India for the same and talks have been progressing with respective boards to chalk out the event.

The BCCI President’s trip to England has a sole purpose, to plan out how the four-nation can be played out if it gets an approval from all the boards involved. Apart from ECB and CA, ICC officials will also be consulted regarding the same.

An insider who is close to developments spoke to the news agency IANS and gave an insight on the purpose of Ganguly’s visit to the United Kingdom (UK).

“Yes, Ganguly headed to the UK from the Eden Gardens on Wednesday and there will be talks around the 4-nation tournament during his stay there. Cricket Australia officials could also join in. That depends on how things progress as some things need looking into,” the source said.

For the past few months, BCCI officials have been in talks with their CA and ECB counterparts to pan out details of the four-nation series, and how it fits into the current international calendar.

In December, the ECB had given an official statement after one such meeting.

“We meet regularly with other leaders from the major cricketing nations to share learnings and discuss topics that impact our sport. A four-nation tournament was raised at a meeting with the BCCI in December and we are open to discussions with other ICC members to see if this concept can develop,” read the statement.

The ICC is planning to host a flagship tournament every year for the next eight-years, which means the four-nation series could well be given a go-ahead.
