The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly wants the Indian National Cricket Team to play at least one Pink Ball Test in every series. India became the last major cricket nation to embrace day-night Tests when they hosted neighbours Bangladesh in front of a sellout crowd at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens last month.

More than 50,000 fans were at Eden Gardens on Friday as the stands at the iconic venue were packed. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, legendary Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh were part of the star-studded guest list on Day 1 of India’s 1st ever Pink ball Test.
I am pretty upbeat about Pink Ball Tests – Sourav Ganguly
Since the Bangladesh match, Australian Test captain Tim Paine has also proposed a pink-ball Test in Australia during India’s next visit Down Under. As far as Ganguly is concerned, the day-night Test between India and Australia at Adelaide next year does seem like a possibility.
“I am pretty upbeat about it,” Ganguly told ‘The Week’ magazine. “I feel this is the way forward. Not every Test, but at least one Test in a series. I will share my experiences with the board, and we will try and implement it in other places. After this, everyone is ready. Nobody wants to play Test cricket in front of 5,000 people,” added the former India captain.
I think it can be a one-off thing – Virat Kohli
In contrast to Sourav Ganguly, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli didn’t welcome the idea to play day-night Test in every series. The skipper said that the longest format should be followed for its traditional value and not entertainment. Hence it could be an exception but shouldn’t become a part of mainstream cricket.
“I think (day-night Tests) can be a one-off thing, it should not be a regular scenario,” Kohli said in Kolkata on the eve of the Test match.
Well, it would be interesting to see whether the Indian team management will consider the suggestion of Sourav Ganguly or not. As far as the upcoming tour to New Zealand is concerned, Indian fans might witness the Virat Kohli-led side locking horns in Pink Ball Test.
