Sourav Ganguly Great Fit To Be ICC President: Graeme Smith

After former England captain said Sourav Ganguly could head the global governing council in future, CSA director of cricket Graeme Smith has also favoured the BCCI president to take up the role. Sourav Ganguly learnt the administrative role under late Jagmohan Dalmiya. He took over as Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president following his death in 2015. Sourav Ganguly made immediate impact after taking over as the president of Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) last year with some key decisions. He pioneered the first-ever Day-Night Test in the country.

Ganguly is the first India cricketer after the Maharaja of Vizianagaram to become the president of BCCI. Former England captain David Gower feels to be a BCCI president you need to be a very deft politician and need to have a reputation. Former India captain and one of the most successful captains has incidentally got it all.

“The president of the ICC now becomes a very key position in terms of how the game can progress and progress at the right level. It would be great to see a cricket man like Ganguly to get into the role of the ICC president. That will be good for the game. He understands the game, he has played at the highest level and he is respected. That is going to be an interesting time for international and it is going to be a great appointment,” Smith said on Thursday during an online conference with journalists.
