The BCCI’s President post has come at a big cost for Sourav Ganguly as the former Indian captain is likely to lose more than Rs 7 Crore. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, he will lose out this much money as Ganguly will not be able to do commentary and work as an expert on television after he becomes BCCI’s President. Apart from that, he might also not be able to become the head coach of the Indian cricket team in future.

The former India captain, on occasions, has expressed a desire to hold the top position but with him becoming the boss of BCCI, it could very well see him not becoming India coach in future.

As far his media contracts are concerned, he will not be able to perform them due to conflict of interest issues. As per the Lodha reforms, no official can hold more than one post at a time. The very rule saw Rahul Dravid quit his position at Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) to remain coach of India A and India U-19.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman could not also continue due to the same rule.
Ganguly is a part-time commentator and only commentates in ICC events. He is also a cricket expert on television but will now have to stop taking media work. He also hosts a show on television.

Ganguly will take over as the BCCI’s President on October 23, the day of the election. He will continue to hold the post till September 2020 and will have to go on a cooling-off period then. After being done with his maiden stint as BCCI President, Ganguly can again take up media roles.
