India’s former skipper Sourav Ganguly has picked the team’s World Cup squad for the forthcoming ODI showpiece. Ganguly has picked KL Rahul as well as Vijay Shankar in his probable list of players. In fact, Ganguly has picked neither Rishabh Pant nor Dinesh Karthik in his World Cup squad. Pant hasn’t proved his credentials in the limited overs format.

On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik was not picked for the ODI series against Australia. Karthik has done a great job for the Indian side as he has provided the finishing touches. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly has picked KL Rahul as the back-up opener to Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Furthermore, Ganguly said Kohli should bat at his regular position of number three.

Ganguly selects a potent side.

“The Indian pace attack is fantastic. Whether its Bumrah or Shami, the Indian pacers are performing consistently. The pacers will play an important factor for the team in England,” said Ganguly as quoted by PTI. “The opening combination should not be tweaked. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the ideal pair to give India a fast start. But K L Rahul is also there.”

“Shikhar and Rohit should open. Other than the two, Rahul is another batsman who can open. Virat is being Virat. He is on top of his game,” he said. “Virat should bat in his usual number 3 slot. Rayudu at 4, Dhoni at 5 and Kedar at number 6.”

Meanwhile, the Prince of Kolkata believes there should be no place for Ravindra Jadeja in the World Cup squad. Ganguly feels Vijay Shankar should get his chance in the World Cup as he had bowled with aplomb in Nagpur. Moreover, Ganguly selected Umesh Yadav in the squad.

“Ravindra Jadeja should not be in the World Cup team. Vijay Shankar bowled beautifully in the Nagpur match. I think Vijay deserves his World Cup spot,” he said.

Here is Sourav Ganguly’s World Cup squad: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, K L Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kedar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Vijay Shankar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav.
