BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has backed the under-fire wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, to regain his form after having copped a disappointing IPL 2020 campaign with the Delhi Capitals.

Barring his half-century in the final, Rishabh Pant had a forgettable IPL campaign, where his strike-rate dropped to a mere 115.

Pant’s stock as an international cricketer has steadily declined in the past 12 months, with him losing the incumbent keeper-batsman post in white-ball set-up’s to KL Rahul. Pant hasn’t even been picked as the second-choice keeper in the limited-overs squad, with Sanju Samson taking up that spot.

Pant is, however, a part of the Test squad, where he will battle it out with the experienced Wriddhiman Saha for the elusive spot in the playing 11.

Ganguly has backed the Delhi southpaw to regain his touch while picking him and Saha as the two best stumpers’ in the country.

”He (Pant) and Wriddhiman Saha are our two best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the country,” Sourav Ganguly told PTI.

“Don’t worry. His bat swing will come back. He is a young guy and all of us need to guide him. He’s got tremendous talent. Rishabh will be fine.” he added.

Rishabh Pant or Wriddhiman Saha? Who will keep wickets for India in the Test series?

However, when asked about who should be India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in the Test series, Sourav Ganguly remains non-committal.

“Only one can play, so whoever the is in best form will play,” Ganguly said.

In the past two years, India has adopted the policy of playing Saha in home Test matches while keeping Rishabh Pant for overseas. Pant had a brilliant last tour of Australia but given his lack of runs in the last Test series, he played- against New Zealand earlier this year- his current form and Saha’s exploits in the IPL, it will be interesting to see who the team-management chooses for the upcoming Test rubber.
