Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly refused to compare the two greats of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Tendulkar is the holder of most batting records in world cricket. However, with the form Kohli is in, it won’t be a surprise, if he breaks Sachin’s records, at least in the limited overs version if not in Tests.

Ganguly who was present at the launch of his Autobiography ‘A Century is Not Enough’ in New Delhi also stated Team India would start as favourites in the quadrennial event scheduled to be held in England next year. They will surely want to get the coveted title back.

“I don’t believe in the word ‘best’ as different teams play well under different situations, but we have a side which is very strong.

“We went to 2003 and 2007 World Cups as favourites, in 2011 we won and even now. It’s all because of the culture of Indian cricket and the quality which comes out every time which makes Indian cricket special,”

India were the runners-up in the 2003 edition of the tournament.

They played brilliantly throughout the tournament. However, the Men in Blue faltered in the final hurdle and surrendered a huge 125 runs victory to Australia.

In the 2007 edition, India got eliminated in the group stage following defeats to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It was one of the most demoralising days in Indian cricket history, as India had to bow out of the tournament after just three matches.

Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh who started off their careers under Ganguly were also present at the book launch occasion. Both were of the opinion that India would emerge victorious in the 2019 World Cup.

Ganguly has always heaped praises on his former opening partner and teammate, Sachin Tendulkar. He is one of Ganguly’s favourite cricketers. Ganguly has always supported Virat Kohli too and has always lavished praise on the current Indian skipper.

However, Ganguly refused to compare the two legends from two different eras.

“We don’t compare generations. Indian cricket is fortunate to see both of them. Every generation has produced champions. When Gavaskar (Sunil) finished, people thought who would take his place and then Sachin came. Later Dravid (Rahul) followed Sachin and look we now have Kohli,” said the former skipper.
