India rode on Mohammed Shami’s brilliant spell in the second innings of the first Test on a docile pitch in Visakhapatnam when he claimed a five-wicket haul to help the hosts beat South Africa by 203 runs. Speaking of Mohammed Shami, Faf du Plessis showered words of praise before asking his own bowlers to learn from the in-form bowler.

It was a tough loss for the South Africa cricket team at Visakhapatnam. They were outsmarted by the Indian team in all departments of the game. However, the skipper of the team Faf du Plessis doesn’t want to lose his heart and asks his bowlers to look after Mohammed Shami’s line and lengths.

There is a huge intensity about Mohammed Shami bowling – Faf du Plessis

Interacting with the media ahead of the second Test match in Pune, du Plessis commented on Shami’s performance in the first Test. The Proteas skipper said that Shami ‘hits the stumps a lot’. He wants his bowlers also to do the same rather than giving width for the batsmen.

“I spoke to one of our young bowlers too and said to him that it’s a good learning opportunity for you to sit and watch what someone does when they’re on top of their game in home conditions,” Du Plessis said during his pre-match media conference.

“Just learn from (the use of) his angles of the crease and how does he reverse the ball. So yeah there’s definitely something to learn from. There’s a huge intensity about his bowling. You are going to bowl short spells in the heat but when you bowl you have to ensure that you bowl with a lot of intensity and maximize it,” the Proteas skipper said.

Further, Faf du Plessis is confident of making things fall in place in the upcoming Test. The right-handed batsman asked his spinners to put their trust in the practice they put on ahead of the India tour.
