The battle of South Africa could not purchase much as strong-looking Sri Lanka thoroughly managed to wrap up the Galle Test match inside three days. Visitors were unsuccessful to turn the tables at the so-called ‘dust bowls’ and trash them outright.

As it happened:

After batting first, Sri Lanka put a reasonable score of 278 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne with 158 runs carried the bat. Apart from Danushka Gunathilaka, the second opener who scored 26, no other batsman was able to score against the pace battery of South Africa.

Speedster Kagiso Rabada with the four wickets topped the wicket column. In reply to it, South Africa got dismantled on 126-run mark. Faf du Plessis with 49 was the top scorer of the innings, for the visitors.

Second Innings.

After getting a massive lead of 152 runs on a wicket favouring bowlers, Sri Lanka managed to score 190 runs. Karunaratne once again topped the scoring column as he scored 60 runs during the second essay.

Chasing after a score of 343, Sri Lankan bowlers dismantled South Africa on a mere score of 73 runs. Quinton de Kock was the highest scorer from South Africa topping the runs column with a figure of 10 runs.

Dilruwan Perera once again bamboozled South Africa as he took six wickets. Collectively, he took 11 wickets throughout the match.

Records tumbled:

The Proteas have been simply shocking with the bat and they have lost all 10 wickets inside a session. One can say that it was lack of ability for them to play spin but at the same time, they didn’t find an answer to Perera, who got 11 wickets.

Experienced spinner Rangana Herath was at his usual good self and Lakshan Sandakan applied the finishing touch.

Stats and Numbers.

0- No other South African bowlers have now more wickets than Dale Steyn. He is leading the table with 421 wickets while equalling with legendary Shaun Pollock.

1- Kagiso Rabada is now the youngest bowler to take 150 wickets. He got this milestone at the age of 23-plus 50 days.

1- This is South Africa’s lowest Test total since its re-admission in 1991.

1-  It’s also the first time when Sri Lanka took all the 20 wickets under the score of 200.

2- South Africa’s 73 is the second-lowest Test total by any team against Sri Lanka

4- Suranga Lakmal is only the fourth skipper of Sri Lanka team joining the team of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Herath, who won their first two Tests as skipper.

6- South African openers, Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram were stumped in the second innings. This is overall the sixth time when both the opening batsman got out in this form in the same innings.

7- 73 runs from South Africa is the joint-lowest total by any team in Asian conditions.
