South Africa vs Sri Lanka 2019, 2nd Test - Watch - Lasith Embuldeniya Dislocates Thumb while Catching

Sri Lanka has suffered a blow in Lasith Embuldeniya, who dislocated his thumb in the first innings of the second Test. It was during the fag end of South Africa’s innings when he tried taking a catch of Kagiso Rabada off his bowling which resulted in him getting severely injured. Such was the impact of the injury that surgery got scheduled on day one of the Port Elizabeth Test itself. Meanwhile, he has been ruled out for six weeks.
Lasith Embuldeniya shone on his debut
The slow left-arm spinner made his debut during the Durban Test against South Africa. In the second innings, he picked five wickets and remained in the dugout to witness Sri Lanka’s famous win at the venue. In the following match, the visitors only fielded him as the specialist spinner.

However, an unfortunate turn of events will now his team struggling for bowlers in the second innings. In his absence, Dhananjaya de Silva, the spinner who took a couple of wickets in the ongoing Test will have to fill the space. Though Sri Lanka is leading the three-match series 1-0, injury to Lasith Embuldeniya could keep the Lankan camp worried.
In the first innings, Lasith bowled a little 5.3 overs and gave away 26 runs, remaining wicketless. Before he could spread his web around the batsmen, a returning catch off Rabada left his thumb getting injured.

Sri Lanka dominates South Africa in first innings
South Africa batted first in Port Elizabeth after winning the toss. Vishwa Fernando, the new-ball bowler, gave Sri Lanka a brilliant start – removing Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla off successive deliveries. Temba Bavuma followed them early, as the hosts were reeling at 15 for three one stage. Aiden Markram, the right-hand batsman, scored 60 runs while the man in form, Quinton de Kock hit a fighting 80 to keep South Africa in the game.
Sri Lanka produced another brilliant bowling show to restrict the Proteas for 222 in the first innings. At stumps on day one, Sri Lanka’s score read 60 for three.
