Legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara recently previewed West Indies’s tour of England. The three-Test series starts from Wednesday (July 8) in a bio-secure environment, marking the resumption of international cricket which was shutdown in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The first Test will take place in Southampton while Manchester will host the last two games. And as the cricket world is eagerly awaiting the resumption of cricket, Lara and Tendulkar decided to preview the first Test. The two talked about Jason Holder’s captaincy, West Indies’ chances in the series, the partnership between James Anderson and Stuart Broad and other crucial points.
However, one of the comments from Lara seems to have unimpressed West Indies fast-bowler Sheldon Cottrell and it is quite understandable. At the beginning of the discussion when Tendulkar asked Lara to comment on West Indies’ team composition, the West Indies legend started by mentioning the name of the players who pulled out of the series due to coronavirus fear.
Lara said that the West Indies team is not at its full strength as he rued that Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Sheldon Cottrell have pulled out. Lara, however, was wrong as not Sheldon Cottrell but Keemo Paul was the other player who had pulled out along with Bravo and Hetmyer.
Sheldon Cottrell was not at all impressed with Lara’s mistake and was quick to take to Twitter to clarify the matter. The left-arm pacer, who last played a Test way back in 2014, asked Lara to speak about the game before stating that he was not picked for the tour, writing:
“Dear Legend @BrianLara Gr8 to hear U and @sachin_rt ??speak about the game but it defintely wasn’t me who refused to go to UK??♂️Proud #Windies soldier ready2 #bleedmaroon whenever called up. Wasn’t selected on this one but will be infront of TV 5am ?? the bowling attack is ?”
