Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday (July 24) has announced its 15-man ODI squad for the five-match series against South Africa. The first One-dayer International will take place at Dambulla on July 29 (Sunday).

Angelo Mathews has returned as the ODI skipper of the side. Mathews had given on his captaincy role earlier. Thus, the all-rounder will have his work cut against the South African juggernauts.

Subsequently, slow left-arm orthodox Prabath Jayasuriya received his maiden call-up to the Sri Lankan squad.

Moreover, Kasun Rajitha, who hasn’t made the cut into the Sri Lankan side is also added to the squad.

Sri Lanka will like to climb up the ODI rankings:

Meanwhile, southpaw and opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored 356 runs in the two Test matches is overlooked by the selectors. However, the left-hander makes the cut as a stand-by player.

The hosts have already bagged the two-match Test series. Therefore, the home side will look to continue their domination over the visitors in the 50-overs format.

Sri Lankan had taken advantage of their home conditions as they totally dominated the Proteas in the red-ball format. Thus, they would like to repeat their performance in the One-day series.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has struggled in the recent past in the white ball format. The Island nation is placed eighth place in the ICC ODI Rankings.

Therefore, they would like to climb up the rankings in the 50-overs version before the 2019 World Cup.

On the other hand, South Africa who is in the third place will like to take revenge for the Test series loss.

Here is the Sri Lanka ODI squad for the five-match series against South Africa:
