Sri Lanka have recalled their veteran all-rounder Udeshika Prabodhani as well as four other for their upcoming third round of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship series against India.

The other three players who have returned to the team are Chamari Atapattu, Anushka Sanjeewani and Nilakshi De Silva and Imalka Mendis. Regular captain Atapattu is returning to the team after missing Sri Lanka’s last international assignment, Asia Cup T20 in Malaysia, due to dengue. Atapattu recently played in the Women Super League in England

On the other hand both, wicketkeeper Sanjeewani and Nilakshi played an ODI during the home series against England in 2016. Mendis, the middle-order batter, is returning to the team after a gap of two years. She last played an ODI against Australia in 2016.

Prabodhani was a part of the team that had toured the Caribbean for their inaugural round of the 2017-20 Championship cycle. However, the Islanders had lost the series 3-0 and Prabodhani faced the axe. She had played only one game and her poor performance saw her losing her place for subsequent home series against Pakistan. Sri Lanka had gone on to lose that series by 3-0 too.

As a result, they are yet to open their account in the ICC Women’s ODI Championship after six games.

Teenage all-rounder Kavisha Dilhari, who made her debut in the series opener against Pakistan, has held on to her spot in the team. However, veteran all-rounders Chamari Polgampola and Achini Kulasuriya, and wicketkeeper-bat Rebeca Vandort have faced the axe from the the 15-member ODI squad.
