After more than a year, India and Sri Lanka are reportedly set to lock horns in a bilateral series once again. Sri Lanka are likely to visit India for a three-match T20I series in January next year. Both the teams had last played a bilateral series in 2017 when Sri Lanka toured India for a full-fledged series. Both the teams had played three Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is.

Contrary to the popular expectations, Sri Lanka had done decently in India. They drew the first two Tests before losing the third Test and consequently the series. The Islanders then won the first ODI before the hosts won the next two. It was the same series where Rohit Sharma had scored his third double century in ODIs. In the subsequent T20Is, the home side blanked the visitors 3-0.

Sri Lanka had also hosted India in 2017 for a full-fledged series and had endured a terrible outing at home. India played three Tests, five ODIs and one T20Is and had won all the nine games.

The two teams are now all set to renew their rivalry once again. While nothing has been confirmed yet, reports suggest that Sri Lanka will visit India early next year.

Both the teams had last played against each other in this year’s World Cup with India making light work of their neighbours. Sri Lanka managed 264 for 7 in the allotted 50 overs before India chased it down inside 44 overs by losing just three wickets.

India are currently gearing up for the home series against South Africa. The world number one Test side are hosting South Africa for three T20Is and as many Tests. The T20I series will get underway on September 15. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will next visit Pakistan for a limited-overs tour. The tour, however, has already been marred as ten Sri Lankan players have decided against visiting Pakistan due to security reasons.
