The Sri Lankan Cricket Team will mark its return to international cricket after the coronavirus pandemic enforced a halt to proceedings when they travel to South Africa later this year.

According to a report published in the Reuters, Sri Lanka is set to tour the rainbow nation for a two-match Test series in late December.

This will be Sri Lanka’s first international assignment since their limited-overs series against the West Indies in February. Since then, the Lankan players have seen a plethora of their assignments get either canceled or postponed due to Covid.

The first of two Tests will kickstart on Boxing Day and according to the same report, Durban or Port Elizabeth are major contenders of hosting it. The second Test is reportedly set to take place at Newlands in Cape Town.

The last time Sri Lanka traveled to South Africa, they scripted history as they became the first Asian team to beat the Proteas in their own den in the Test series.

Meanwhile, most of Dimuth Karunaratne’s teammates will be seen in action in the inaugural season of the Lankan Premier League. The competition is set to begin on November 21. Among the South Africans, the duo of Faf du Plessis and David Miller are expected to take part in the five-team tournament.
