Sri Lanka vs England 2018: 1st Test, Galle – Day 1 Review; Though the scores on the paper show it as the even-stevens day at Galle, it would be England side, who will sleep well tonight. They were able to come out from jaws of giving a complete advantage to Sri Lanka after the horrible first session, thanks to debutant Ben Foakes.
Initially, it was the visitors, who won the toss and asked the home side to roll their arms. Accepting the challenge, Sri Lankan bowlers delivered the goods right in their first spell. The stunning deliveries from Suranga Lakmal sent back Rory Burns and Moeen Ali on consecutive balls.
Ben Foakes heroics save England on Day 1:
Though Keaton Jennings and Joe Root tried to save the ship, it was the man of the occasion, Rangana Herath, who knocked down the wooden furniture of Joe Root. Subsequently, Keaton Jennings also walked back while failing to tackle Dilruwan Perera.

It was a nice little spell from Dilruwan Perera, which yielded three quick wickets for Islanders. However, then came the resilience act from the debutant, Ben Foakes, who batted beautifully to bail out the English side.
Foakes incredible patience impeded Sri Lanka from rolling out the team, especially, after bagging the positive start. Ben Foakes remained unbeaten throughout the day while Sam Curran and Jos Buttler gave their helping hands.
Sam Curran knocked a brilliant 48 to his name while Jos Buttler scored 38. Unfortunately, both failed to capitalize the starts. Dilruwan Perera was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with four wickets to his name.

Meanwhile, Suranga Lakmal chipped in with a couple of wickets while Akila Dananjaya and Rangana Herath bagged each wicket.
