Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal Chandimal is ruled out of the second Test match against England. Chandimal has suffered a groin injury in the first Test match which has ruled him out of action for the next two weeks. Thus, Chandimal participation in the third and final Test match also hangs by a thin thread.

Meanwhile, Charith Asalanka has been called as the replacement for the right-hander. Asalanka had impressed in the warm-up match against England. The southpaw batsman had scored a fine knock of 63 for Board President’s XI.

Suranga Lakmal will hold captaincy bridle.

In fact, the left-hander is yet to make his International debut for Sri Lanka. However, the talented batsman had led Sri Lanka in the Under-19 World Cup in 2016. He has featured in 29 first-class matches in which he has amassed 1185 runs and has scalped 24 wickets with his off-spin bowling.

Therefore, Suranga Lakmal will hold the captaincy reins for Sri Lanka in the second Test match. The hosts are already trailing by 1-0 in the three-match and losing their skipper has added to their woes.

On the other hand, England had won the first Test match by 211 runs. The second Test match will take place at Pallekele from November 14. Thus, the hosts will be determined to make a comeback into the Test series.

Furthermore, Sri Lanka will be without the services of their veteran spinner Rangana Herath who hanged his boots from the red ball version. Therefore, Sri Lanka could not give a perfect farewell to vanguard spinner.

Sri Lanka will look to make a solid comeback in the second match. England was able to tick the right boxes in the first match after debutant Ben Foakes scored a fine hundred to get his team to a respectable score.
