A new entrant in England ODI squad Joe Denly said Moeen Ali is an inspiration for him. In fact, Denly said Moeen is currently the best in the world and he has been an inspiration to a lot of people. Meanwhile, Joe Denly was recently added to England ODI squad after Liam Dawson was ruled out due to an injury.

England is currently leading by 2-0 after three matches in ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Denly has played with Moeen Ali in the Under-19 team of England. In fact, Denly is mainly known for his batting skills in the England domestic circuit. However, he had done well for his County Kent as he had scalped 57 wickets in three formats of the game.

Moeen Ali has done a fine job for England.

“It is funny how things change. He’s probably one of the best in the world now. He is certainly an inspiration, not just for me but for a lot of people.”

Denly also recalled the Under-19 days spent with Moeen Ali. Both of these good friends were more batsmen than bowlers earlier on in their career.

“I was talking to Mo yesterday about when we used to play England Under-19s together…we used to take the mick out of each other’s bowling,” Denly was quoted as saying by Yorkshire Post. “We were both batters back then. Both of us used to roll our arms over in the nets, but I thought I was better than Mo and he thought he was better than me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Joe Denly is confident of coming up with good performances for England. Denly has thus far played only nine ODIs and five T20Is for the three Lions.

“I’ve become a lot more confident and it’s something I really enjoy doing. It’s about trying to develop that even more now and be known as more than just a batter who bowls a bit,” he further said.

The fourth ODI will take place at Pallekele on October 20.
