ToggleSri Lanka vs England 2018; What a great game it has been in Colombo. The winning result played a see-saw game with both the sides and ended up towards England side to enter into the record books. After a long wait of 56 years, England bagged their first away clean sweep in Test format of the game. All the players put their hands up when it required the most.
Jonny Bairstow knocks sensational hundred:
Coming to the game, it was all started when Jonny Bairstow hit a sensational hundred at number three position for England. It was a scintillating effort, as the ball was listening to the words of the spinners.
Lakshan Sandakan, who replaced Akila Dananjaya bagged a five-wicket haul to his name. Meanwhile, the superb ton of Bairstow was followed by a brilliant bowling display from Adil Rashid, who picked a five-wicket haul as well.
For Sri Lanka, Karunaratne and De Silva batted brilliantly upfront, but none of the middle-order batsmen showed their charm. Ben Stokes also bowled superbly to chip in with three wickets.
Then it was Dilruwan Perera’s show, who bowled a cracking spell to pull Sri Lanka back into the game. But, Jos Buttler showed a great character to score 64 to his name to help England put a 326-run target for Sri Lanka.
Kusal Mendis-Roshen Silva efforts went in vain:
In reply to the target, once again Sri Lanka got the initial jolts in the form of Gunathilka and Dananjaya. Mathews and the nightwatchman quickly followed them, Lakshan Sandakan to make the things worst.
However, Kusal Mendis got the support of Silva to make things happen. Just when things looked solid for Sri Lanka, England spinners, Leach and Moeen Ali bowled scintillating spell to close curtains on the chase of Islanders.

Spinners took 100 of the 116 wickets to fall – most by spinners in 3-match series. And England's spinners played a major role in the whitewash – claiming 49 of those wickets. #SLvENG pic.twitter.com/nqiG7iyhIz

Only the second time Sri Lankan batsman failed to score an individual 100 in a 3+ Test series at home. Other was against Australia in 1999 – Herath's debut series. #SLvENG

Incredible effort by Sri Lanka. To only lost by 42 runs after being 52-4 at the start of the day to get anywhere near the target you have to take your hats off to them. Massive well done to the @englandcricket boys. Great performance all series #SLvENG #bbccricket

England's 9th consecutive result game since the Lord's Test v Pakistan last June. The only loss in that period was India's 203-run win at Trent Bridge on 22 August#SLvEng

What a fine effort from the England team to clean sweep Sri Lanka in latter's home conditions as we seldom see a touring team doing the same. A fine collective team effort from the English team. #SLvENG

Credit to @englandcricket – No matter who and how SL side is, they beat Australia, South Africa so to beat them 3-0 in conditions tailor-made for the home side – a tremendous achievement. #SLvENG
