Stats: Aaron Finch-D'Arcy Short Shatter Record for Highest Partnership in T20Is
Records tumbled, as Australia blew away Zimbabwe in the third match of the ongoing T20I triangular series in Harare. Riding on their skipper, Aaron Finch’s career-best T20I knock, the team from Down Under slammed 229 for two in the allotted 20 overs.
Finch enters records book
Finch continued his red-hot form in the shortest format, as he broke his record for highest ever score in T20I’s with a stunning 172 off 76 deliveries.
Asked to bat first, Finch started the innings, firing on all cylinders. He reached his fifty off 22 deliveries before bringing up his second T20I century in 50 balls.
On the other hand, his partners D’Arcy Short was just a meek spectator, as he played the role of a second fiddle to perfection.
The left-handed batsman struck 46 off 42. Short, nonetheless, managed to enter the record books, as he and Finch set a new mark for highest partnership in T20Is.
Both Finch and Short surpassed the previous record of 171 set by Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson against Pakistan in 2016.
The duo added a staggering 223 runs for the first wicket. Australia were on track to become the first team to bat through 20 overs without losing a wicket.
However, Short returned to the pavilion with four balls remaining. A couple of deliveries later, Finch departed too in a bizarre manner.
The Australia opener was out hit wicket when he chased a wide delivery from Blessing Muzarabani.
Finch fell just three runs short of the highest ever 20-over score – a mammoth 175* scored by Chris Gayle in the Indian Premier League in 2013.
With the duo setting the record for the highest stand in T20Is, we take a look at top ten partnerships in the shortest format of the game.
