No batsman other than Steve Smith from Australia remains in as much focus as the blockbuster four-match Test series against India nears. Steve Smith, who is the number one batsman in Test cricket, was not part of the last time India toured Australia as the visitors clinched their first Test series down under. Following an underwhelming run in IPL 2020 for the Rajasthan Royals, the 31-year old reveals to finding his strides gradually.

Steve Smith could not be at his best for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 as the franchise finished at the bottom in one of the most highly-competitive tournaments of all time. As a captain, he managed only 311 runs at 25.91 with a strike rate of 131.22 alongside three fifties. With the white-ball fixtures looming against India followed by the Test series, the former Australian skipper would want to prove himself.

Hence, Steve Smith revealed to have to hit his straps gradually are indeed ominous signs for India. The New South Wales batsman averages a daunting 84.06 against the tourists in Tests while he also had a tremendous run in ODIs against the same opponents earlier this year. Australia’s home summer kicks off on Friday with the first of the three ODIs in Sydney and having returned from the UAE; Smith has been sweating it out in the nets.

Steve Smith felt quite disappointed with his torrid run in IPL 2020 with the bat having not found a rhythm at all. Nevertheless, the 31-year old saw encouraging signs in the past few days and is confident about his hands and the way it has come up with the bat. Smith admitted that everything has clicked quite well in the last few days and felt delightful after training the other day.

I was pretty disappointed actually with my batting throughout the IPL. I never really got into a good rhythm. The past few days I have found something … I have found my hands which I am extremely excited about. It’s just getting that feel of the bat behind my toe the right way, the way my hands come up the bat. But it just hasn’t quite been right until two days ago. I found a little something and everything just clicked in. I had a big smile on my face after training the other day,” Smith said as quoted by India Today.
