For the most part of the ongoing summer in UK, Steve Smith has been jeered and booed by the England fans because of the ball-tampering scandal. The English fans have not only booed Smith but have also constantly called him cheat. Well, Smith returned the favour to some extent on Sunday night by mocking England hero Jack Leach.

The Australian players celebrated wildly at Old Trafford after winning the fourth Test by 185 runs to retain the Ashes. Chasing an improbable 383, England were all out for 197 in the final session of the last day. The celebration continued late on the field and Smith was in his elements during the joyous occasion.

The former Australia skipper reportedly donned a pair of spectacles, wiped them and shadow batted left-handed in the middle of a team huddle to mock Leach. English news outlet The Sun reported that Smith’s teammates enjoyed his act and also shouted “no-ball” and “come back Smithy” in reference to Leach overstepping during a delivery which Smith edged to slip in Australia’s first innings of the fourth Test. Smith was batting on 118 at that time and went on to score a sublime double century.

Leach became a hero in England after wiping his glasses and later recreating his single after his one not out in England’s thrilling one-wicket win at Headingley earlier in the series. Perhaps, Leach’s act made Smith mock him.

Australia, nonetheless, will leave the English shores without losing the Ashes for the first time since 2001. During this period, they lost the Ashes four times in England. Talking about Steve Smith, he has been the difference between the two teams so far. In five innings so far, he has scored two centuries and one double century. In the other two innings, his scores were 92 and 82.
