Banned Australia cricketer, Steven Smith, recently got barred from competing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). It had happened after some franchises appealed against his illegal entry into the league. However, with Pakistan Super League and the Indian Premier League, Smith wants to cement his place in Australia’s 2019 World Cup squad.

Smith reveals about his plan to return to the national side

Moreover, while speaking to media for the first time, the right-hander said his path to back into the national team.

“I was playing in the Bangladesh League, but I don’t know what is happening there at the moment. After that, I have the Pakistan League and then the IPL, which I think is adequate preparation for the World Cup, if I’m selected,” Steven Smith said.

In addition to, batsmen are becoming more attacking in the 50-over format. It can be seen that many of the teams are scoring 300 plus runs in a one-day game. However, Smith called ODI cricket as an extended version of the T20s.

He also added the Indian Premier League is the best tournament to showcase his talent and prepare for the 2019 World Cup that is going to happen in England.

“Now the way the One Day game is played it’s almost like an extended T20. So I think T20 cricket is a good way to prepare and the IPL is one of the best tournaments around the world,” Smith opined.

Furthermore, the World Cup is nearing day by day, and the forthcoming Ashes as both the events will take place on the English soil. Smith isn’t deluding himself by not expecting the crowd to bully him for what was done in March this year. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old is preparing himself to face an aggressive environment.

“I’m just moving forward day to day and doing what I need to do to prepare to hopefully get another opportunity to play for Australia. And if that’s World Cup and Ashes, so be it. And no doubt the English crowd will be incredibly hostile. I’m ready for that if that happens.” Steven Smith concluded.
