Former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has said that if the impact of COVID-19 settles in India and India and Australia come to a mutual agreement, this year’s T20 World Cup can be held in India. The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 is scheduled to take place in October-November later this year in Australia.
Gavaskar also vouched for IPL 2020 to take place in September this year if things settle down in India. IPL 2020 was scheduled to take place from March 29. But due to the nation-wide lockdown from March 25, it was postponed until April 15. With the lockdown being extended to May 3, the BCCI has indefinitely suspended the tournament until further notice.

Although both the major tournaments are on the brink of getting cancelled or postponed for a longer duration, Sunil Gavaskar believes that both the tournaments can be held in India if things ease out.
Sunil Gavaskar Vouches For India To Host The T20 World Cup 2020
“At the moment, as we all know, Australia has barred foreigners from entering the country till the 30th of September. The tournament is starting from mid-October or the 3rd week of October, so it’s looking a bit difficult at the moment,” Gavaskar told India Today.
Sunil Gavaskar on swapping on ICC events:
“If it can be done… next year’s T20 World Cup is in India. If it can be done… where India and Australia come to an agreement… In case the curve in India flattens out and India and Australia swap… so the T20 World Cup is in India in October-November this year and Australia in October-November next year, then it can happen,” he added.

“If it is going to happen that way, then maybe what can happen is the IPL can be held just prior to the T20 World Cup so that it’s enough practice for the players to have T20 World Cup,” Gavaskar further said.
Coronavirus Threat Looms Large Over The ICC T20 World Cup
The cricketing world has also suffered a great deal due to the pandemic. Major cricketing events have either been postponed or suspended in the wake of the pandemic. Australia was supposed to host the ICC T20 World Cup later this year, but due to the outbreak, there are speculations that the tournament might be held behind closed doors.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will on Thursday review contingency plans for this year’s men’s Twenty20 World Cup in Australia and discuss ways to restart the sport once the pandemic subsides, the governing body said on Monday.
