Former Indian legendary batsman, Sunil Gavaskar, has called for a complete clarification and update on Rohit Sharma’s availability for team India on the Australian tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian contingent that will travel to Australia to play all three formats. Rohit Sharma, the Indian limited-overs vice-captain, wasn’t in the list.

BCCI claimed that Rohit is injured and the medical team will keep supervision on him and Ishant Sharma. Rohit, who is currently contesting in IPL 2020 hasn’t played the last couple of games for Mumbai Indians (MI) owing to his injury. However, right after the Indian team announcement, Mumbai Indians shared some pictures of Rohit Sharma training in the nets.

It is worth noting the fact that the extent of Rohit’s injury has not been revealed by the Mumbai Indians franchise and nor by the Indian team management.

Sunil Gavaskar Not Happy With Rohit Sharma’s Sudden Exclusion

With no clarity being provided on one of India’s most gifted batsmen, Sunil Gavaskar has demanded clarification on the entire issue and said that it is his right as a fan to know as to what is going in the team.

“I don’t know, I’m not on any of these public media but I was shown something about him practising at the nets for Mumbai Indians. So I don’t know what kind of injury it is. Because if the injury was serious he wouldn’t even be padded up,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Sunil Gavaskar further said, “So we’re talking about a tour that starts at the end of November for T20s and one-dayers but the Test matches start around 17th of December which is a month and a half away. And if he’s practising in the nets for Mumbai Indians then honestly don’t know what kind of injury it is.”

The Fans Should Know: Sunil Gavaskar

“And I think a little bit of transparency, a little bit of openness about what actually is the problem with him will help everybody. Because the Indian cricket fan deserves to know more than anything else. The franchises I understand, they don’t want to give their hand away because they’re trying to win the game, they don’t want to give the opposition any psychological advantage but we’re talking about an Indian team,” said Gavaskar.

“Even Mayank Agarwal for example, Mayank Agarwal has not been playing… I think for the Indian cricket fan… they ought to know what is happening to two of their key players,” Gavaskar further said.

Meanwhile, India’s tour of Australia is set to begin with the first ODI taking place on November 27. The final game of the tour will end on January 19 with India’s Test series ending on that very day.
