Sunil Gavaskar Praises Mohammed Shami, Says He Reminds Him Of Malcolm Marshall

Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has had a very eventful calendar year 2019 finishing with 42 wickets in ODIs leading his side’s bowling unit from the front. His career-changing year has earned praise from all quarters including India legend Sunil Gavaskar. The former India skipper heaped praise on Shami saying he reminds him of former West Indies great Malcolm Marshall.

Shami, who plays for Bengal in domestic cricket has emerged as one of India’s bowling spearhead in the last two years. Mohammed Shami has lost his weight and has looked fitter which he has managed to replicate on his performances in the cricket field. The right-arm pacer finished as the highest wicket-taker for India in Tests and ODIs and also has the most scalps to his name in the fifty-overs across the globe.

Sunil Gavaskar praises Mohammed Shami

Sunil Gavaskar, while commentating during the third ODI between India and West Indies hailed Mohammed Shami for his impeccable display of fast bowling. Gavaskar said that Shami reminds him of Malcolm Marshall, who had made his name for sending terror to the batters during his prime.

“He reminds me of Malcolm Marshall, who still wakes me up from deep sleep,” Gavaskar said while commentating for ‘Star Sports”.

Previously, Sunil Gavaskar had also compared Mohammed Shami to a leopard who has made fast bowling look so easy in the last few years. Coming from a legendary cricketer like Gavaskar, this will certainly be a motivation for the 28-year-old who will look to surpass his wickets tally in the next year.

“When he is running in, when the spider cam actually takes it, it is such a sight. It is almost like a leopard going for a kill,” Gavaskar had said.

Meanwhile, India capped off a brilliant series win against West Indies from 0-1 down. A perfect start from the openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul backed by a classic 85-run knock from Virat Kohli helped India close in on 316-run target set by West Indies before Shardul Thakur, and Ravindra Jadeja took India home to finish the year on a possitive note.
