Suresh Raina Clears Yo Yo Test 'After Days Of Hard Work'

Months of hardwork and perseverance has finally paid off for Suresh Raina as the out-of-favour left-handed batsman finally cleared the Yo-Yo Test at the National Cricket Academy.

An integral part of India’s limited-overs set up not very long ago,  Raina had not played in One-Day International since October 2015 when he was dropped after a string of poor performances.

He was recalled for the ODI series against New Zealand last year but did not play a single game due to illness. However, a recall for the T20 series against England earlier this year gave him a glimmer of hope, and he fully capitalized on it by finishing the three-match series as its third highest run-scorer with 104 runs. A few months later, he proved his worth with yet another impressive IPL season, scoring 442 runs in 14 matches which led to his inclusion in the standby list for the Champions Trophy. It was a big sign that the southpaw was very much in contention for a recall from the selectors and was tipped by many to make a comeback during the away series to Sri Lanka.

However, reports suggested that he failed to get a call after failing the ‘Yo-Yo’ endurance test which has become a mandatory parameter for selection in the national team. Raina, however, was not bogged down by the setbacks and worked hard to improve his fitness. He constantly posted videos of his workout on Twitter and had also stayed in the Netherlands with his wife to improve his fitness.

And he finally cleared the fitness test on Thursday (December 21). As soon as he passed the test, he took to Twitter to share the good news with his fans.

“Cleared my Yo-Yo & fitness test today, after days of hard work at #NCA! Received tremendous support from all the trainers, coaches & officials. Thank you all! ?,” he wrote.

“It’s always so encouraging to train here at #NCA, motivates me to push my limits and bring the best out of me. ?,” he added.

Raina is clearing the fitness test, meanwhile, will be welcome news for Team India which has struggled to find a settled player at number four. The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Manish Pandey and KL Rahul have been tried as the nuber four batsman this year but without much success and Raina can end India’s long search.
