Despite the World Cup squad to be announced by April 23, Raina has a chance as there the middle-order is still unsettled and should Raina do well in the initial phase of IPL, he can make his comeback to the national side.

In 2017, he was one of the five players on standby for ICC Champions Trophy but therafter, he sat out for long for failing yo-yo test.

Raina made his comeback for South Africa T20Is after clearing the test and later, he also made a return to the ODI fold.

The doors are not closed on him yet and he can use IPL to make his comeback.

This will be his tenth season with Chennai Super Kings.

Until last year, Raina had never missed a match for Men in Yellow but he had to miss two games in 2018 due to an injury.

The two years when the franchise was banned, he led Gujarat Lions, who qualified for the playoffs in 2016.

Chennai Super Kings will go in the tournament as defending champions.

They clinched the title for the third time after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

Raina was the star with the bat in the tournament as he scored 445 runs at 37.08.

Apart from Raina, players like MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson will have a crucial role with the bat.

The franchise had bought Mohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad during the auction that took place last year.
