Suresh Raina, the Indian middle-order batsman, took to Twitter on the occasion of Friendship Day to thanks former Indian captain and his Chennai Super Kings teammate MS Dhoni for being his ‘mentor’ and ‘guiding force’ during the course of his career.

Raina’s Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings posted a video featuring both the southpaw and MS Dhoni and captioned it as “F.R.7.3.N.D.S – together in to pursuit of perfect10n, for a perfect den. #WhistlePodu #Yellove #FriendshipDay.”

Replying to the video, Raina, who recently completed 15 years in international cricket, hailed Dhoni as not just a friend but a guiding force, who stuck with him in the hardest times.

“Thank you for creating such beautiful memories of us @ChennaiIPL. @msdhoni bhai is not just a friend, he is been my guiding force, my mentor, and always been there in the hardest times. Thank you Mahi Bhai. Happy #FriendshipDay! See you soon!” Suresh Raina wrote.

Raina and MSD are one of the most successful pairs in the history of white-ball cricket. While the duo has been the spearheads of the Chennai Super Kings franchise since its inception, they were also the heartbeat of the Indian middle-order in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni are the 7th most successful pair for India in 50-over cricket. The duo batted together on 73 occasions between 2005-2018, in which they racked up 3585 runs at an average of 56.90 which includes 18 half-century stands and 9 three-digit partnerships. As far as T20I cricket is concerned, the duo batted together in 27 innings, scoring 549 runs at an average of 27.45 and two half-century stands.

The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is set to kickstart in the United Arab Emirates and the Chennai Super Kings and their loyal fans will hope that ‘Thala’ [MS Dhoni] and ‘Chinna Thala’ [Suresh Raina] turn up the heat in the desert and contribute towards another title heist for the ‘Yellow Army’.
