Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) announced squad for the Super League phase of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018. The selectors dropped an experienced batsman, Abhinav Mukund.
The left-handed batsman scored 22 runs in three innings in the league phase. With him not being part of the team at the crucial stage, it might show its impact on IPL auction day.
Apart from Mukund, Tamil Nadu will also miss out on the services of Dinesh Karthik, who was called to the Test squad to replace an injured Wriddhiman Saha. There are high chances of him playing a Test match after eight years as Parthiv Patel neither kept wickets well not contributed big with the bat.
Karthik could have played a game or two for his side before flying out to South Africa for limited overs series, but now, he will have an early arrival.
He performed well for Tamil Nadu in the league stage and scored 211 runs, including three consecutive half-centuries. Should Karthik be able to score runs and keep wickets well in the third Test (if given a chance), he can replace Parthiv Patel as a backup option for Saha.
Talking about team’s performance, Tamil Nadu qualified for the next round after finishing the league stage at second rank with four wins in five games.
The Super League of the T20 tournament will be played in Calcutta from January 21 to 27. Apart from Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Delhi, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Baroda, Bengal, and Jharkhand are the nine states who have qualified for the second round.
