India discarded batsman, Suresh Raina, failed to impress in the first outing after clearing the yo-yo test as the batsman could just score 13 runs in the first game of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018 for Uttar Pradesh.
He played an innings of 13 off 15 at a strike-rate of 86.66. His innings included just one four.
Uttar Pradesh had a slow start as openers, Samarth Singh and Eklawya Dwivedi, scored 63 runs for the first wicket in 10.1 overs.
After Samarth’ dismissal, the pressure was on captain Raina to score runs at a fast pace, but he failed to do so.
It was an innings of 25 off 16 from Rinku Singh and 19* off 11 from Sarfaraz Khan that saw Uttar Pradesh posting a total of 146/5 on the board.
It is to be noted that Sarfaraz was not the part of the UP squad announced.
Riding on efforts from Ankit Lamba (45 off 35), Aditya Garhwal (37 off 29) and Rajesh Bishnoi (21* off 15), Rajasthan chased down the total on the penultimate delivery of the game to win the second consecutive game.
Putting the focus on Raina, it was not a great outing for the left-handed batsman who is looking to make a comeback in the national side. It is to be noted that he can make a comeback to the side if he does well in the tournament as team India is still looking for an experienced batsman and he can fill the void.
Raina still has few chances left in the tournament and runs from the bat is the sole thing which he needs at the moment.
Chennai Super Kings has already retained him, hence, getting an IPL buyer is not a concern for Raina, unlike the majority of players playing the tournament.
