Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018: Unmukt Chand Makes A Comeback For Super League

Unmukt Chand and Milind Kumar have made a comeback to Delhi squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League.

The duo have replaced youngsters Sarthak Ranjan and Himmat Singh, who have been selected in Delhi U-23 team for the one-day series. Tejas Baroka too has been asked to play U-23 tournament, and Varun Sood has made a comeback to the senior time after a long period. He was though named in the list of standby players for the tournament.

Rest of the team is unchanged, and Pradeep Sangwan has been retained as captain. Under Sangwan, Delhi won four out of five contests in the North Zone League.

The team started the tournament with a two-run loss against Punjab but soon made a comeback in the tournament by winning their next four games. Delhi’s win in the last game saw Punjab making it to the next round.

Rishabh Pant was the highest run-scorer in the Zonal league tournament as he scored 278 runs in five games, followed by Karun Nair (236) and Sreevats Goswami (232).

Ravikumar Thakur and Diwesh Pathania (11) wickets were the highest wicket-taker in the Zonal League of the tournament. For Delhi, Pawan Negi was the highest wicket-taker with seven wickets in his account.

The Super League of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starts on January 21 in Calcutta. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Baroda, and Mumbai are the ten teams who have qualified for the Super League.

As per the earlier format, a combined teams from all zones was to be formed, but BCCI tweaked the format mid-way the season to provide members of qualified teams to give them an opportunity to present a case in front of IPL franchises.
