A decision on 2020 T20 World Cup is due to be taken this month. It is understood that the global governing council is playing a waited game to evaluate their resources along with the host board’s ability to host the marquee tournament in a pandemic-hit year. Former Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts had already admitted its inability to host the T20 World Cup this year.

One of the major concerns about hosting a mega-team even would be the logistics and to get it sorted in a pandemic situation would be a daunting task for the organisers. Amid all this, it looks like postponing the tournament would be a fair call. Former Cricket West Indies president Dave Cameron, who is in the running for the role of ICC chairman, also cast his doubt over the T20 World Cup.

Cameron is of the opinion that with all the international borders closed due to the pandemic situation the T20 World Cup looks uncertain. He also said that it will be a tough call to make for the global governing council and more than anyone it will be an unfortunate decision for few cricket boards.

“I highly doubt it, right now with the borders being closed in Australia, I am not sure how quickly we will be able to have that result and how quickly it will be played. It’s a tough call, unfortunate again, Cricket West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland etc. will start to lose more than Australia and England,” Dave Cameron told Cricket Addictor in an exclusive interview.

The 16-team 2020 T20 World Cup is originally slated to take place from October 18 to November 15. It is likely that the tournament will be postponed to next year. CSA director of cricket Graeme Smith and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) President Kumar Sangakkara had hinted about the possibilities of the tournament being postponed to early 2021.
