As Australia desperately looks for a winning combination, flexible Travis Head has admitted he is ready to bat anywhere for the benefit of his side.
Meanwhile, the Aussies started their preparation for the tri-series in Harare. Top-ranked T20I side Pakistan along with the hosts will be the other two teams.
However, the Aaron Finch-led side is coming from 28-run defeat in the one-off game against England. As a result, the Baggy Greens slipped one spot to the third place in the ICC Team Rankings.
Head made 15 off ten balls in Birmingham batting at No.4 in that game, a place he has batted in the last few games. Last summer he played at first-drop for the Adelaide Strikers.
However, he has scored runs opening the innings in ODIs. In ten innings opening the batting, he averages 48.40 with one century and four fifties.
However, with a bunch of quality hitters, the selector’s have plenty of option to choose for the first game.
But the flexible Head says he’ll slot in anywhere in the order if it helps his team get a much-needed win.
“I’ve always said I’m not too bothered where I bat,” Head told cricket.com.au. “Whatever’s best for the team is where I’ll fit. I think I fit in anywhere in the order and can play a role for the team. I got my chance at four the other night (at Edgbaston). Didn’t play as well as I would’ve liked. I’m working hard at the minute and wherever my spot fits I’ll fit,” he added.
Furthermore, the upcoming tri-series is head coach Justin Langer’s second stint at the helm of Australian cricket.
Although Australia suffered a humiliating defeat against England, Head says the new mentor’s approach is having a positive impact.
“He’s been working us really hard, relaxed but fair,” Head said. “He’s really hard on basics. Me personally, the last four weeks have been the best that I’ve trained. It hasn’t reflected the way I’ve been playing with a couple of starts without a big score,” he concluded.
